Birkdale Updates & Fall Events

Six items to keep you informed about our progress…

  • Birkdale Farm Restoration (Year 5): In-stream restoration is complete, supported by successful volunteer fish rescues. The next steps are streamside planting and maintenance.
  • PSF Video & Gala: The Pacific Salmon Foundation filmed a video on the Birkdale Farm restoration, including interviews with our team. The video will premiere at the PSF Salmon Gala Dinner on Sept. 26.
  • Family Watershed Day: Thanks to participating directors for organizing our involvement. Drop in and say “Hi” at the event taking place Sept. 19 from 10 AM – 3 PM at Puntledge Park. MORE
  • Comox Valley Nature Presentation: We will present our work at their monthly meeting on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 3 PM MORE
  • Temperature Recorders: Two continuous temperature recorders were successfully installed near Birkdale Farm and Baybrook Park.
  • Birkdale Invasive Removal: Veteran fish counter Joy and her volunteer team have been pulling invasive species at Birkdale for two months. This consistent effort is highly encouraging. With the fine weather continuing, it seems we should take advantage of it and put in an extra session of tansy-pulling.  I am hoping many of you will be available this coming Thursday, Sept. 17th, at 9:00 at the Birkdale Farm gate on Guthrie. We have made very good progress along the stretch below the barn and we MAY be able to finish it this week!  Please let me know if you are able to join us for a fun-filled morning of bird song, babbling waters, banter and blackberry scratches.  I will look forward to seeing you there!  Joy 250-941-2643
