Your Impact in Action
Every dollar goes directly into field operations, tools, and habitat safety. Your annual dues help us manage vital regional programs:
- Salmon Conservation: Building and monitoring our spring fish fence near the creek mouth to track and count wild coho smolt salmon.
- Habitat Restoration: Replacing invasive plants with native species and restoring eroded stream banks alongside local landowners.
- Contaminant Monitoring: Running volunteer sampling projects to test stormwater runoff for highly toxic car-tire compounds like 6PPD-quinone.
Our Partnership with the Town of Comox
The Brooklyn Creek Watershed Society works hand-in-hand with municipal staff to protect the environmental health of our town. Our strong collaborative relationship includes:
- Joint Infrastructure Walkthroughs: We regularly join teams from the Town of Comox Parks Staff to walk the creek corridors. Together, we assess urban impacts, review stream health, and map out physical upgrades for both Mack Laing Park and Brooklyn Creek Park.
- Co-Funded Conservation Grants: We maintain a robust relationship with federal advisors and the Pacific Salmon Foundation. The Town of Comox steps up as a 50 percent financial contributor on key habitat restoration grants.
- Council & Community Advocacy: Our volunteers act as vital “eyes on the ground,” tracking development impacts. We provide formal presentations directly to the Town of Comox Council to defend against urban degradation and safeguard local wildlife corridors.
